Hi, we have a debt collection agency sending us a piece of paper that says my husband owes a sum of slightly over 6,000 dollars but thats all it says, no explanation what so ever. We have requested detailed information from them about this cause we honestly have no idea what it is for. But they just keep trying to call, never have they sent us any information like we have asked. Do they have to send us the info we have asked for before they can expect anything from us? Anything you can tell me will be very much appreciated. Ronee

Optional Information:
Norfolk, Nebraska

Already Tried:
We have sent letters to the agency requesting info many times without ever getting what we asked for.

Hi Ronee,

Anytime that you have a collection agency call you they do not necessarily have the original paperwork, so when they receive a request for copies they have to go back to the person or company that you owe the money to and this can take some time.

So I would suggest that even though you have sent letters to the agency, you send again only this time you send it registered with a return receipt. If you get the signature card back then you know that they have accepted the letter, if you get the letter back keep in in a file unopened and send another. Continue to do this until they comply or they decide to sue you is the best that you can do at this point.

I hope this helps!
