my daughters financial aid for $25,000.00 was revoked by Boston University. When they requested our tax forms when she was applying for the aid we used our tax return of 2005. This was our latest tax form as we file for an extension every year.BU is stating that we did not send in the proper documentation in a timely manner. But this tax return was the only one we had. We included form 4868 (Application for Automatic Extension of Time to file...etc) and form 7004. Is there any thing we can do?

The answer is good, but let's take it a step further. What kind of a lawyer and do you have any names of one I might contact that might do this work pro bono?

Hello Kat,... let me apologize for the delay in getting back to you. Our web site has had difficulties and I couldn't get to the page to respond to your last message.

You would look for a general business or contract law type of attorney. Not being in your town I am not familiar with attorneys there. You should be able to just browse your yellow pages. "Pro Bono ??? unlikely but if you do have some excessive financial distress you should discuss this with the attorney. He/she may be willing to allow some incremental payments. However, I don't believe this will run into a lot of money. Another expert with our answer service has contacted me indicating I should suggest to you to file your own appeal with BU. Evidently you have the right to document income via other sources rather than just your tax filings. You can provide w-2 and 1099 forms. And in addition to the extension agreement you could include the trial 1040 form.

I believe if you will follow through with these things you will be successful in having BU reinstate the financial aid.
